Peter and Julia both swiped right on a dating app called Bumble in early 2017. They got to talking on the app, moved things over to text, and then ... Peter ghosted. It wasn't until a couple months later when Julia was in Las Vegas with her mom, sister and Celine Dion that she got a text from Peter ... he was moving out of the burbs and "could they get a drink?" when he was finally settled in Philly. Their first date was at the PHS Beer Garden on South Street, where they spent the next five hours getting to know each other, laughing, talking, and unbeknownst to them, having their last ever first date. Julia and Peter went on to have two more dates in the first week of their meeting, and the rest was history. She didn't have eyes for anyone but him, and he sure was glad he sent that "meet for drinks?" text.
After settling on their new home in East Passyunk, Peter knew the time was right to ask the big question. But he had to do it right and make sure the people who love them could be there to celebrate. So Christmastime it was! Peter met with Julia's parents to ask for their blessing, and got to work on the proposal. Plotting the biggest surprise for a girl who doesn't love surprises began with a special street, some twisting of the truth, and a whole lot of planning. With help from their families and some of their closest friends, Peter was able to plan the perfect night. He convinced Julia they were going to see the Philadelphia Ballet's The Nutcracker (one of Julia's all-time favorites). After grabbing a drink and cutting through Rittenhouse Square, they turned onto Addison Street, a quiet side street covered in lights. He whistled and his four-legged best friend, Nigel, came running so they could drop down to one knee and ask the girl they both love to stick around for the long run. After an emotional moment and an emphatic "YES" Julia was desperate to relay the big news to her family. It took some convincing, but Peter was able to sway Julia to wait to drop off Nigel at home to call her family. When they arrived, the DeLong and Shreckengast families were waiting for them to celebrate. An amazing night followed that perfectly demonstrates the foundation of love on which Peter and Julia's relationship was built.
