Paris 2013 ➡️ Fiancée 2023

It only took 10 years.

We met in the Spring of 2013 on the University of San Diego Phi Kappa Theta's seasonal trip to Las Vegas. We interacted only briefly and that could have been the end of our shared experience. As fate would have it, that was only the beginning. Only a couple of months later, we found ourselves on a summer study program in Paris with a small group of USD students. Over the next few weeks, we fell in love sharing baguettes at Ô Chateau, taking selfies at Le Cavern, eating 3AM chicken nuggets in Amsterdam, sharing dance parties & sleepovers with Nicole's roommates, visiting the flower fields of Provence, and finding parts of ourselves in each other. Things didn't last then; Duross went off to Madrid for the fall and Nicole completed her senior year. Following Nicole's graduation in 2014 and Ro's in 2015, we continued our separate lives. There was the occasional visit to San Diego or Laguna, the sporadic text exchange, continued well wishes. In 2018, while we were both living in Los Angeles, Duross reached out in the hopes of reconnecting. The rest, as they say, is history.

The Proposal

I want to spend the rest of my life with you.

Four years after rekindling, two years into living together, Duross popped the question. At the outset of 2022, he promised Nicole it would be "their year" as a way of placating her incessant marriage questions. When Duross suggested an end-of-year trip to Mexico, Nicole knew it was *finally* happening. On Saturday November 12, the day before their scheduled departure, Nicole spent the morning getting her very first set of acrylics in preparation. Sporting an oversized tie-dye tee and sweatpants, Duross asked her out for a casual breakfast at Zinc. Afterwards, he suggested a quick trip to the park and zipped them over to Vista Ridge off of Newport Coast. Looking out over the cliffs and ocean, Nicole thought it was the perfect place for a proposal and laughed. Franklin was zooming around, the slipper socks she put on were causing her feet to sweat, and Duross asked her to try tossing the tennis ball. When she spun back around, Duross was on his knee. "What are you doing?!" Nicole asked dumbfounded. Then she saw the ring and knew. "I want to spend the rest of my life with you," Duross told her. There were tears, giggles, Nicole's laments over her choice of clothing, and Franklin's careless running. Then, Duross' sister Haley, who had been tasked with photographing the surprise, ran over in a hurried frenzy: she missed the main event. After some reenactments & a short, impromptu photoshoot, they all headed to Julie & Steve's for champagne and hugs.
