How did Mark ask? Great question! It happened in fall 2021, Mark said he wanted to show Julia the fall colors in the mountains. Taking Julia, his sister, and brother-in-law with their new son to the Golden Gate Canyon State Park near the city of Golden, Colorado, Mark lead the way for some hiking. The group walked together for a time, but eventually, Mark and Julia split off from the group as his sister and brother-in-law bundled up their son a bit more for the chilly weather. Seeing a sign for a "panoramic view," Mark and Julia started to follow the signs always looking for the "panoramic" spot. They passed groups of hikers coming down from the mountain, none of them seemed exactly sure where the spot was. Still optimistic Mark and Julia hiked their way up and up and up, still looking for the mythical spot where the view would majestically open up. Getting late in the afternoon with fading light, Mark pulled Julia off the trail a few feet to rest on a small boulder. While gulping down water, they watched as a group of parents, kids, and toddlers strolled by them. Once they were out of sight, Mark turned to Julia and romantically blurted out, "Well, I didn't bring you all this way for nothing." Mark and Julia were both laughing at this point as Mark knelt down on one knee. Still laughing, he asked Julia to marry him which she gladly said yes to! They never did find that panoramic view, but nothing beat the sight of that ring on Julia's finger.
