Our Story

First comes the 8th grade dance then comes the marriage

Matthew and I have known each other since middle school. Although neither of us can really remember being close friends, we did go to the 8th grade dance together in our awkward years. He wore his dads shoes that were too big and I apparently decided doing your hair wasn't that important! Moving on to high school, we ended up being in the same drivers ed car. I of course was the best driver in the group, which still holds true today! Other than this, Matthew and I really don't recall engaging with one another, as we both were in different sports and friend groups. It was not until years later when we reconnected. I was working night shift at the hospital and he was out flying around the world. He contacted me, but I had to do the follow up work in order to meet up. After our first date, which happened to be in the town we live in now, the rest became history. I remember walking outside of my apartment and him standing at the bottom of the stairs with the biggest smile on his face. He pretended that the car he was driving was his... I of course just played clueless. We since have enjoyed our time being able to travel to multiple places around the world. A treasure I hold as it would not have been possible with out him!

The Proposal

January 17, 2022

Matthew asked me to take a week off from work with very little notice. I was hesitant to ask my new boss...but I sure am glad I did! Due to the COVID restrictions for out of the country travel, we played it on the safer side and went to Kauai, Hawaii. It was our second day there and he had planned to rent a 4x4 Jeep to travel out to this secluded beach down a long, very bumpy dirt road. I was very much so interested in starting to get my tan on and doing my nails, while he obsessed over whether or not it was going to rain and if we should go! Since the rain did hold out, we found our way there and made it to the beach around dusk. He started to set up his camera and asked me to go stand in front of it to make sure the lighting was going to be okay. This is then when he got down on one knee at Polihale Beach and asked me to marry him! YES!
