The Sherpa House is where we had our first date on August 22, 2016. This is a fun, Napalese restaurant! You may want to call ahead if you plan on dining here, the seating is limited. The decorations are really cool and the garden is beautiful.
This was our favorite hang out spot between and after classes. We've played many rounds of "Smoke or Fire" and got a few sunburns hanging out on the patio. The pretzels with ghost pepper ranch are a staple snack. The house red is a crowd pleaser if it's on tap.
The javelina has cured many of our hangovers, but all of their food is great.
We used to live in downtown Morrison, and Red Rocks was pretty much in our backyard! No matter what kind of music you like, you'll probably be able to find a show you'd enjoy, if that's your thing. There's no other venue quite like this one - there's a special place in our hearts for this place. If you'd prefer to see the beauty of Red Rocks during the day, there are plenty of trails that surround that area. Don't worry, we get out of breathe up here too - the air is thin, but the hike is worth it!
If you're a fan of dive bars like we are, you'll feel right at home! We used to walk to this bar when we lived in town for the free poker nights, the live music, more than a few rounds of pool, and of course, the delicious cold beer. There's popcorn machines on the patio with the pool tables, or there's a cozy ma-and-pa shop right next door with some good food.
Cafe Rio was another college favorite. The sweet pork on anything (in burritos, tacos, nachos) is AMAZING. This place is like Chipotle, but better! Don't miss out on the cilantro lime ranch, if that's your thing.
You can opt for a "short tour" if you want to skip the factory tour, but they now charge for entry.
If you're looking to venture a bit further, and are avid margarita lovers, Illegal Burger in Arvada has 64oz margs - be warned, they are not for the faint of heart (and don't forget the altitude will get ya quicker when you drink)! The burgers and truffle fries are the classic go to. You should definitely consider Ubering if you make the trip. This is right down the street from where Larry lived for a portion of college (Ashley practically lived there too).
If you're looking for a hike, other than Red Rocks, Lookout Mountain is just up the road by Colorado School of Mines (where we met), in Golden. The trail at the top is beautiful and takes you to the back side of the mountains where you'll see incredible sights! You can see the "M" on the mountain - every year the freshman carry 10lb rocks all the way up the winding road and leave them at the "M". The rocks are white washed so you can see them from miles away and they stay there until the graduating class is taken to the top to take a rock with them on their next journey as a symbol that we made it!
South Table is a bit of a more accessible hike from downtown Golden if you don't have a car for the day. When you get to the top, you can look down and see the Mines campus, or on clear days you can see out to the airport. Be sure to wear some sunscreen and bring some water - it gets hot on the rocks! Also, if you're afraid of heights, this might not be the most satisfying experience to you. When you get to the top, you can walk up to the edge of pretty massive, 90 degree cliffs.
