Shivani and Jonathan's story began in college, brought together by mutual friends. On a Friday during fall semester, Shivani texted Jonathan a last-minute invite to an open mic event near campus. She was nervous, didn't know anyone else going, and fully did not expect him to actually attend. Shivani took to the stage and was surprised to see a familiar face in the crowd. She smiled when their eyes met, and Jonathan knew in that moment, there was something special about this girl. Soon after, their relationship transitioned to long-distance as they both completed their studies. Many Zoom calls, road trips, and flights later, the couple reunited in the Land of Enchantment. In New Mexico, their connection deepened through a shared love of the outdoors and exploring the Wild West's natural beauty. Shivani introduced Jonathan to skiing, but it wasn't long before Jonathan was a seasoned skier, clocking over 40 days on Santa Fe's sunny slopes in 2020. Their relationship has endured the uncertainties of the pandemic, multiple graduations, homeownership, renovations, and more. Jonathan and Shivani saved up to buy their first home in Albuquerque and soon after rescued a Rottweiler puppy named Loki (aka "God of Mischief") from a rural shelter in 2021. Through the toughest times, they both knew they had the unwavering support of a life partner and best friend. After Shivani completed her graduate program, Jonathan transferred offices to join her in the Bay Area (his "Going Back to Cali" moment). Settling in Oakland over the past two years, they focused on professional growth, hobbies, and reconnecting with friends. They'd grown accustomed to the faster pace of city life, but time seemed to slow down one winter evening. On a cold, foggy Valentine's Day night, they escaped into an intimate French restaurant that transported them to Paris. Jonathan made arrangements in advance to propose right before the dessert course. They sometimes laugh when they recount how bright the light-up ring box was in the candlelit restaurant packed with other patrons, but otherwise the proposal went beautifully and she of course, said yes!
