Graha Shanti is a traditional Hindu pre-wedding ceremony that focuses on blessings, peace, and positive energy before the big day. In Hindu belief, “grah” refers to the planets, and “shanti” means peace. The ceremony is performed to seek harmony from the planetary energies and to pray for a smooth, joyful, and obstacle-free marriage. It’s essentially a spiritual way of starting the wedding celebrations with good vibes and gratitude.
In this ceremony, guests apply a paste made of turmeric, sandalwood, and rosewater to the bride and groom. Traditionally, turmeric is believed to purify, protect, and bring good luck. It’s also known for giving the skin a natural glow — which is why you’ll often see the couple glowing (and very yellow!) afterward. Haldi is usually one of the most fun and playful events of the wedding celebrations. There’s music, laughter, and sometimes a bit of friendly mischief as loved ones smear turmeric on the couple and shower them with blessings.
The Sangeet is an evening of music, singing, and dancing where both families come together to celebrate the couple. Over time, it has evolved into a full-on party — often with choreographed dance performances by friends and family, heartfelt speeches, and lots of joyful energy. It’s a wonderful way for everyone to bond before the wedding day, especially when families are meeting for the first time. You’ll see colorful outfits, big smiles, and a dance floor that stays busy all night.
