It was a cold Saturday evening in late January, but as typical college students we were keeping warm indoors celebrating at the Maryland Masti afterparty in DC. Shivali had just performed in the competition as part of GW Raas and Anil was celebrating too as many of his GW and UMD friends were part of the show as well. While everyone was having fun and enjoying themselves, Anil made the first move by asking Shivali to dance. The rest is history!
After months of planning, the proposal day on January 21, 2017 finally arrived for Anil. After spending the morning at the Women's March on Washington, Shivali excitedly dressed for what she thought was a cocktail hour to commemorate the opening of the brand new National Museum of African American History and Culture. As she walked along the mall with her two friends, she was surprised to see Anil standing atop the hill of the Washington Monument, flowers and ring in hand. Moments later, we were engaged! Cheered on by onlookers from the march, we headed for dinner, where Shivali was surprised by our families. Later that night, she was surprised again by all of our closest friends as we celebrated and danced the night away.
