I was minding my business visiting my new baby bff (my college best friend and her husband had just had their first child), and in walks Cedric (my college bestie is married to his best friend). I immediately thought to myself “oh wow. He’s cute. And he’s tall too. Stay calm. Don’t make eye contact.” Because. Awkward. Before we knew it, everyone left us in the room alone and the conversation flowed from there. God must’ve known I was meeting my husband that day because I got a fresh press that morning. I mean not a puffy root in sight, and I looked good. Ok? Ok. Alright, back to the story. Ced is a country boy so he’s naturally good at storytelling in a captivating way with the perfect Southern drawl. He’s also hilarious so we had no isuues finding things to talk or laugh about. He asked me out for Valentine’s day which was the very next day. We agreed on a hot chocolate date at Cafe Intermezzo and that he would pick me up the next afternoon. Of course when we got to the restaurant it was packed and the wait was long since we hadn’t made reservations. We decided to walk across the street to get Mexican instead. The conversation was good. I could tell he was nervous, but he held himself together. We quickly discovered that there had been many times we’d been in the same room or party, etc, but never saw each other until the night we met. I suppose God was hiding us from one another until we were both ready. After lunch he dropped me off, the conversations and dates continued, and here we are!

I was over visiting my best friend AJ and his new baby girl. AJ is married to one of Lynn’s best friends (Ebonee). At the time Lynn was upstairs with the baby and I had no idea she was even there. I was downstairs with the guys doing God knows what, and some type of way we got a bottle top stuck in the sink and couldn’t get it out. After Ebonee got tired of us tearing up her sink she says, “let me ask Shirlynn to get this top out of my sink.” When Shirlynn got downstairs my eyes lit up. She walks over to the sink and went to work. I got behind her and mouthed “Aye AJ who is this here?” It took her noooooo time to get that bottle top out of the sink, which had taken us nearly all night. I was impressed!!! My exact thoughts were: “she’s fine and smart” lol. After she did her thing she simply smiled and went back upstairs. That’s when I started asking AJ and Ebonee: “Y’all who was that? Does she have a Bf? Put me on.” The night went on and all of a sudden AJ says, “Bro I thought you came to see the baby?” At that moment I knew it was my time to shine. We all went upstairs to see baby Cam and when we got up there Lynn had rocked her to sleep. After everyone saw the baby, people starting being weirdos and disappearing one by one until me and Shirlynn were the only two people in the room. I believe baby Cam even snuck out. So here I am alone in a room with this fine girl, lights were dimmed and it was completely silent. I took a deep breath and shot my shot. I had to. I couldn’t go out like a chump. I started spitting my game and telling my jokes and as soon as I got that first smile I went in for the kill and asked her out on a date the next day, which was Valentine’s Day. The rest is history. I knew from the time she got the bottle top out of the sink I was at least going to get her digits. But in that room when I saw her smile I knew at that time she was gonna be my wife.
