To our family and friends, With much thought and consideration, we have decided to cancel our October 18, 2020 wedding indefinitely. This was not an easy decision for us to make as we put a lot of time and effort planning our dream wedding. Due to the large amount of uncertainty around large gatherings and having family who are more at risk during this time, we felt it would be best to hold off on a big celebration until there are no more restrictions in place. Our intention was to gather with all of you to celebrate a special moment in our lives, and we hope that we will get to do that one day at a future vow renewal or casual celebration. We will take our time in deciding what that looks like. We truly appreciate everyone who has expressed their support for us. It means so much to us. For those that may not know, we did elope on our original date, June 27, 2020. This date was special for us, and we couldn’t let it go. It was the happiest day of our lives, and made us realize we didn’t need much to profess our commitment to each other. We are truly sorry if this has caused any inconveniences for any of you. If there is anything we can do to recoup any losses on flights or accomodations, please let us know. With Love, The Chens
Shirleen and Kai met in 2014 while working at Curvature in Santa Barbara. They would notice each other when Kai would hang around her sales group's pod, but awkwardly never say anything to her. One day, to his surprise, Kai was invited to Shirleen's 24th birthday with some mutual friends. That night, one of those friends, Stephanie, hinted to Kai that Shirleen thought he was cute and that he should ask her out. That seed blossomed into the love they both share today. From that night, and many more in Santa Barbara, to moving to Sacramento with their pups Princess and Kirby - Shirleen and Kai have shared many memories across the globe. On the weekend of December 14th, 2018, Kai followed Shirleen on a work trip to Chicago. Being the third time the couple had been to the Windy City and the third time being the charm, Kai decided to spice up this trip. While being tourists around the city the couple made a stop at the Cloud Gate, or "the Bean", to take a few pictures. Kai wanted one last picture, but needed to find the right person to capture the next moment. As they posed for the picture, Kai got on one knee and asked Shirleen to marry him. We can't wait to celebrate with all of you as we begin the next part of our story. 06.27.20
