The event on Friday evening is known as the Sangeet. This is a celebration to kick off the wedding festivities. There will be dance performances, food, drink and then an open dance floor. Traditionally, attire is Indian clothing for both men and women. Don't worry if you do not have Indian clothes!! It is more than acceptable for men and women to wear semi-formal attire (i.e. cocktail dresses for women and +/- tie/jacket for men). The Wedding Ceremony is on Saturday morning. Traditionally, Indian attire is worn by both men and women. It is also common for formal attire to be worn. (i.e. cocktail dresses for women and suits for men) There will be enough time between the ceremony and the reception to change. The reception is black tie preferred. This means Indian attire/formal dresses or gowns for women and tuxedos/suits for men.
If you want to buy, I personally have had success with: 'Your Designer Wear', 'Utsav', and 'Indya'. I have included the websites below, as well as a few others that have come highly recommended. There is also a website that you can rent from called 'Riya Collective'. I have not personally used this site, but it also comes highly recommended. - www.yourdesignerwear.com - www.azafashions.com - www.utsavfashion.com - www.houseofindya.com - www.riyacollective.com
It is always humbling to receive a gift and we know our hearts will be filled with gratitude. Unfortunately, with our current residence in the Detroit area and the wedding in Portland, transporting multiple gifts across the country would be very difficult. For this reason, we do have a registry on this website that will handle delivery for us!
The baraat is a groom's wedding procession. It is a festive time for everyone to celebrate the upcoming wedding. Traditionally, this is the groom's family and friends, but all are welcome to celebrate.
