Question

The Nuptial Mass

Answer

(AKA the wedding ceremony) The day will start with a Catholic Latin Mass in the Extraordinary Form. This means that everything will be said in Latin! Not all Mexcian couples decide to have their Mass in Latin - in fact, we are the first amongst those we know to have this type of wedding Mass - but it is the Mass we are in love with because it's the original! • • • • • • • • • The Mass will be about an hour and thirty minutes long, and we will provide programs so you know when to stand, kneel, or sit. There are a few things you will notice: 1) The veil over the bride's face. This represents purity along with the white dress. 2) The Arras. These will look like little coins, and they represent the groom's promise to provide for the family. The bride's acceptance of the coins symbolizes her trust in her soon-to-be husband to do so. 3) El Lazo. This will look like a rope or a much bigger and longer version of a Rosary. It represents the couple's unity in and with Christ. 4) The Godparents that are part of the wedding party. The Godparents are married couples that are chosen by the bride and groom. Each set of Godparents will provide a gift during the Mass. They are life-long relationships that promise to be of support and accountability to the couple during their marriage! 5) Flowers to our Blessed Mother. There is a bouquet of flowers that the bride and groom will take to Our Blessed Mother (Virgin Mary). This is to honor her, thank her for her fiat, and ask for her intercessions in thier marriage. • • • • • • • • • After Mass, there will be pictures inside the Sanctuary with the couple and guests. Once you have taken your picture, you are welcome to start your journey to our reception location (about an hour drive). If you love road-trips, enjoy the drive! If you don't love road-trips, we are sorry. 🙈

Question

The Fiesta (Reception)

Answer

At the reception, you are welcome to sit where you wish (there is no such thing as a seating chart at Mexican weddings). Food will be brought to your table, and you are welcome to start eating once you are served. The couple will come in at a later time and will join in the meal. There will be a series of dances, speeches, songs, and the cutting of the cake. After the cutting of the cake, if you do not want to stay and dance, you are welcome to leave (Good Mexican etiquette is to stay until after the cutting of the cake)! 🎂

Question

FYI: The Money Dance

Answer

During the reception, guests will be invited to participate in the traditional money dance. In order to participate, guests must pin money on the bride's dress or groom's suit - so bring cash! 💸
