Alex and Rob met at the end of 2009 at Appalachian State University. At the time, Rob was a member of his Residence Hall Council and Alex was Vice President of the Residence Halls Association. After attending several weekly meetings for RHA, Rob began to get more involved in the group. When the opportunity to go to a state housing conference at East Carolina University came up, Rob jumped at it. From the beginning of the trip Alex and Rob hung out together and started becoming friends. The entire trip Rob stayed WITH Alex asking for advice on how to ask out another girl who was also on the trip (he will never live this down). However Rob’s plan worked and he spent the whole weekend with Alex. When they got back to Boone, Rob invited Alex on what would be their first date to a Chinese New Year event on campus. They spent 3 hours sitting and talking, and eating free Chinese food at a little cafe table in the student union before they called it a night. Several nights later they had another date hanging out at Alex’s residence hall. Knowing it was supposed to snow they didn’t worry about it. However Snowmageddon of 2010 hit Boone that evening, dropping 20+ inches of snow over 4 days! Rob ended up being stuck with Alex (and her roommate) for 3 days. By the time the storm was over, Alex and Rob were a couple and the rest is history.

After months of planning and lots of help from friends and family, rob proposed on December 17th 2017. For the entire day Rob talked about taking their dog (Luna) for a long family walk. When Alex and Rob got home they started out on their family walk. After a little while, in a pretty area of the greenway, rob asked Alex if she would go on family walks forever with him and Luna. Turning around to pick on Rob for being so cheesy, Alex found him on one knee grinning from ear to ear. Alex immediately said yes and they were engaged. Epilogue: They then had to run home so Alex could take off her old chipped nail polish before they told anyone and they looked at her ring.
