Our love story began beneath the Caribbean sun in Punta Cana, where two vacations unexpectedly collided with destiny. Sheryl had just arrived at the resort with her friend April, joyfully singing, “It’s my birthday!” as she walked in—radiant, carefree, and glowing with the kind of energy that turns heads without trying. Mark noticed her instantly. Something about her smile, her spirit, her presence made him walk straight over, introduce himself, and wish her a happy birthday. That simple moment lit the first spark. It wasn’t “love at first sight,” but it was a feeling—warm, familiar, and impossible to ignore. We talked for hours that day, discovering quickly how naturally our conversations flowed. We spoke about our families, our careers, what we loved to do, and what mattered most to us. Our first “date” wasn’t fancy or planned; it was simply two people connecting like they had known each other forever. As time passed, our connection deepened. When Sheryl visited Mark for the first time, everything fell perfectly into place. She blended into his life seamlessly, as though she’d always belonged there. And for Sheryl, it was Mark’s consistency, devotion, and gentle strength—his actions—that showed her he was truly her person. He made her feel cherished, protected, and valued, like a Queen. Our early days together felt like being teenagers again—giddy, playful, full of butterflies. We were two halves of a whole, naturally balancing each other’s strengths and weaknesses. If Mark cooked, Sheryl cleaned. If Mark gardened, Sheryl lovingly supervised. We laughed often, talked deeply, and grew intentionally. Then life tested us in the most profound way. Sheryl was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and everything changed. But Mark never wavered. He rushed to be by her side, traveling from York without a second thought. He supported her through surgery and recovery, praying for her and covering her every step of the way. His love became a shield—steady, unwavering, and rooted in faith. By God’s grace, Sheryl is now cancer-free. That chapter strengthened our bond in ways words can’t fully capture. We learned the power of communication, forgiveness, and grace. We learned to prioritize joy—date nights, laughter, long conversations, and unforgettable “baecations.” Through it all, we kept choosing each other, again and again. The proposal was a moment straight out of a dream. During a family trip to the Bahamas, everyone pretended to be setting up for group photos. Then suddenly, it was just the two of us standing before the ocean, with our children and grandchildren watching quietly behind us. Mark took Sheryl’s hand, recited a heartfelt poem he wrote just for her, and dropped to one knee. Sheryl had no idea it was coming, but deep down, she always knew she was meant to be a Smith. Overwhelmed with joy, she said yes. Now, we are returning to the place where our love story began—the Dominican Republic—to exchange vows and step into forever. We want our wedding to reflect pure love: simple, heartfelt, and full of gratitude. We look forward to hearing each other’s vows, seeing each other’s expressions, and feeling the blessing of this moment surrounded by the people who make up our village. Our future together is bright: retirement, more travels, time with grandchildren, and launching our business, Cleaning on a Budget. Through it all, Christ remains at the center—the foundation of our love and the guide for our journey. If we had to describe our relationship in three words: God Sent. Blessed. Highly Favored. And now, we walk into forever—hand in hand, heart in heart, soul aligned with soul.
