Picture this. We're in Brussels Airport (returning from 15 days in Ghana) and I knew Sherrif was surprising me with a trip to somewhere, I just didn't know the destination. He gives me a boarding pass for Frankfurt and I say "oh cool, I've never been to Germany." He pauses and then gives me the second boarding pass to our actual destination: Barcelona. Elated, I say "I KNEW it!" (I had a hunch), I kiss him and off we go to Barcelona. Up until the last day in Barcelona, I had no idea he was planning to propose. I had just turned 30 and this was my birthday present, so to me the surprises were over. Meanwhile, Sherrif had been carrying the ring with him as we traveled from DC --> Brussels --> Ghana --> Brussels --> Frankfurt --> Barcelona. He had placed a note in the box (with the ring) that said "Please be discreet!" in case his bag was flagged and TSA had to search it. I have no idea how he kept his cool during 3 weeks of travels. Fast-forward, we're in the elevator heading to dinner and I can tell Sherrif is a bit stressed. We were a tad late because it took me longer than planned to get ready and I know he likes to arrive on time. I kiss him and tell him that I love him, thinking that might help him relax. Meanwhile he's thinking, "She's on to me!" We arrive at the rooftop, it's a few minutes before sunset and the view is gorgeous. They've got champagne on ice ready for us and we start enjoying our dinner. Sherrif asks me a ton of questions just about life and where I might want to live. I'm thinking he's particularly inquisitive today, but after all, this trip is a birthday celebration so I keep answering his questions. Then he plays our song "More of You" by MAGIC, we enjoy the song and the view of Barcelona at sunset, and then he reaches for his bag. He pulls out a little black box, asks me to dance with him, so I stand up and we dance to our song for a couple seconds and then he goes on one knee and says those magic 6 words "Allissa Abdelwahed, will you marry me?" I rush to kiss him because I'm thinking "if I don't kiss him now, I'm going to start crying." His proposal rendered me speechless. Of course, I say yes (but he already knew the answer). And then he uncovers the photographer, who was there the whole time capturing the moment. We sit back down and then he says "I have one more surprise for you." Moments later, my brother Ramzi and his girlfriend Mélina show up to celebrate with us. I'm still overwhelmed with joy and thinking "how in the world did he pull this off?" For a good two weeks after, I kept thinking the proposal was a dream. If there was a Guinness World Record for Most Romantic Proposal, I think Sherrif's earned it ;).
