Oliver and I met one Saturday in August when neither of us was looking for a relationship. At that time, we were both exhausted from relationship drama and were living our best lives. Oliver did sound for a country band called Nine to Never. The lead singer was a mutual friend of ours, but he and I had never met. I had seen him on some of her Facebook posts but since he doesn't do a lot of social media, I could never find out any information about him. Yes, I was the one trying to check him out on Facebook! He loves that fact. Our friend made a post, Saturday, August 22, 2020 that her band was performing at a bar in the Fort Worth Stockyards. I called up some girlfriends of mine and we made plans to go. Ironically, at the age of 41 I had NEVER been to a proper bar, so this was my first time and I was super excited. After her first set, she did what all performers do and started introducing her band members to us. (She also posted up at our table so we got to hang out with them the rest of the night.) She was so excited to see us and couldn't wait to introduce us to Oliver. She gave us girls some dirty details about Oliver that I will leave out, but had all of us laughing and eager to meet him. He was dressed in a suit, dark glasses, and hyper focused on his sound duties, but still managed to be friendly and tolerate us. We didn't see him for a little bit, but after her show the place was really crowded and they all decided to stay and party. I remember there was another man there that kept trying to talk to me. He was nice enough, but not my type at all, and much to my relief, Oliver came to the table and rescued me by starting a conversation. My girlfriends and I had quite a few beers by now and they started in. They asked Oliver if he was single (which we all already knew he was) and when he replied "yes" with a chuckle, my friend proceeded to say, "Good, because our friend Sherri is also single and she loves black guys." I was mortified and Oliver found it hilarious. Oliver and I talked for a really long time and the other man finally stopped trying to get my attention. It was time to go and we ordered our Uber ride home. Before we left Oliver smoothly asked for my phone number and we all took a photo which is seen below. It was our first photo together. By the time we had buckled up in the Uber car, Oliver had already texted me to say how happy he was we that we had a chance to meet and to make sure we got to the car safely. He sent another text a little bit later to make sure we made it home safely as well. We texted all night and into the early morning around 3am. Before we stopped we agreed to have a phone call the next day and I was so excited. When he finally called we talked for over four hours and agreed to go on a date. My first official "First Date". The rest is history! Since the Saturday we met in August we have spoken every single day, without fail, for 769 days as of right now. I love looking back at those first text messages and remembering this first encounter.
