The Proposal

9/11/18

This was the best birthday gift anyone could dream of. Spenser and I had been talking about bucket list items-I only had a couple. I have always wanted to see the northern lights and get a ride in a hot air balloon. For my birthday Spenser told me he had a surprise for me but wouldn’t tell me what. I knew something was up but talked myself out of my own head. The date was rescheduled for 9/11/18 from 8/26 due to high winds. It was a Tuesday-we both went to work-it seemed like forever for time to pass but time was flying by. I did my hair and make up and patiently waited for Spenser to get home. We grabbed dinner-and then headed to a random parking lot....Soon enough I met our pilot (who knew Spenser was proposing) who had a hot air balloon on his shirt. I knew it-he had to go big. I was so excited-we actually got to help get the hot air balloon set up and ready to go. The weather was perfect-it felt like we were floating through the air. The pilot asked for my phone so he could get some photos of Spenser and I. I attempted to put my arm around Spenser and he was gone. I looked down and he was on one knee with a huge smile on his face holding my beautiful ring. Once it clicked in my head I was shocked. We have photos of Spenser proposing! I am forever grateful that we have those photos with such a memory. This was one of the best days of my life. Yes, Spenser did ask my dad for my hand in marriage, per my request. My dad had a very bad year, a stroke in June then cardiac arrest to many other issues. I wanted my dad to have peace of mind knowing that his baby girl would be taken care of no matter what happened. Little did we know that my dad would pass away 11 weeks later to the day.
