Some love stories begin with a grand gesture, while others start with a well-timed glance across a dance floor. For Aiken and Sheree, it all started in 2016 at a linen and sundress party at Bide-A-Wee Golf Course in Portsmouth, VA. As the music played and the summer air buzzed with energy, Aiken (affectionately known as Ike) spotted Sheree moving effortlessly on the dance floor. He was immediately captivated. Naturally, he did what any man smitten at first sight would do—waited until after the party to ask for her number. Smooth move, Ike. Their connection, however, took its own course—one filled with years of friendship and a few rounds of dating on and off. Life had a way of weaving them in and out of each other’s paths, but as fate would have it, their story was far from over. Fast forward to 2022: Sheree, now a travel nurse working in Philadelphia, reached out to Ike to offer her condolences after the passing of his beloved aunt. What started as a simple check-in soon evolved into daily conversations, and before long, Ike was asking the big question—not that big question, but close: “Can I come visit you in Philly?” Being the determined man he is, Ike embarked on a road trip of precisely 284 miles (a distance he never fails to remind Sheree of) to see her. The couple spent the next few days immersing themselves in the rich history, vibrant food scene, and iconic sights of the city. But it was on the day of Ike’s departure that he made a declaration that would change everything. With all the confidence of a man who had just conquered 284 miles for love, he told Sheree, “I don’t want to be your friend anymore—I want to be your man.” Without hesitation, Sheree responded, “Okay, you’re my man.” And just like that, the next chapter of their story began. On May 12, 2024, surrounded by love and the unwavering support of Sheree’s children, Nizah and Kyreese—who had already given their blessing—Aiken got down on one knee and asked Sheree to be his wife. With a heart full of love and a smile that could outshine any engagement ring, she graciously and joyfully said yes. And so, a romance that began on a dance floor, took detours through years of friendship, and covered exactly 284 miles (but who’s counting?) is now heading down the aisle.
