Depending on who you ask, there's a few different stories about how they met. The real truth is that they met in high school. In chemistry, of all classes. The only conversation they had was during a "round table" discussion about methane gas. Fast forward a few years to when Derek crashed a Halloween party Jillian was co-hosting at a friends' house. They exchanged small talk but never thought anything of it. The next month, she began working at the Melting Pot. Derek was assigned as one of her trainers. Slowly becoming friends, they celebrated birthdays and holidays together (mostly due to their mutual friends Amanda and Paul). When Amanda moved back up north, Derek made it his mission to make sure Jillian wasn't lonely. They went to concerts, bars, movies... as friends. Neither really knows when things became more than that, but both are ecstatic that it did. When they wed in October, Jillian and Derek will have known each other for 17 years, will have celebrated 11 years of friendship, and will be just shy of 5 years as a couple. Proving that it isn't always just about chemistry, but also timing.
