Once upon a time, in the land of lockers, cafeteria lunches, and teenage angst, I was in a typing class during my sophomore year of high school. Little did I know that sitting right behind me, amidst the clickety-clack of typewriter keys, was the guy who would unknowingly become a significant character in my life. Fast forward to the next year, and destiny seemed to be playing its own quirky game. As fate would have it, we ended up working together in the hallowed halls of the library. Now, he being a senior and me being just a lowly junior, I was promptly assigned to the "little sister" zone. Cue eye-rolls!! But oh boy, did things change once that glorious day arrived – graduation day! The once "little sister" had blossomed into something more intriguing. As we embarked on this uncharted territory called adulthood (or at least our clumsy attempts at it), we discovered countless shared interests and inside jokes that made us laugh till our sides hurt. We became partners in crime against life's little misadventures. But as life tends to do, it took us on different paths after graduation. College, careers, and adulting got in the way. We lost contact like socks disappear in the dryer—mysteriously and without warning. Fast forward 24 years to an all-class high school reunion we reconnected. The dapper-dressed gentleman hadn't changed a bit. We began spending more time together, and all the while I thought we were still the best of friends. But he was telling his friends how much he enjoys me, and that I am a wonderful person he finally had to admit. The cat was out of the bag, and he had loved me all along. Whoa! Plot twist! After kissing one too many frogs I decided to take a break from the dating cesspool. Until this little nugget of information was revealed. As we both pondered what to do and how to NOT ruin a perfectly good friendship. We both agreed that we would always find a way to maintain our "friendship" first. That was over 11 years ago. And we haven't looked back since. So, kids, remember: sometimes life throws curveballs and separates you from the people you care about. But don't lose hope, because sometimes those people come back into your life when you least expect it. And when they do, embrace it with open arms and a heart ready for love. Because who knows? Your high school reunion might just be the beginning of your very own epic romance.
