If you haven’t been lucky enough to visit Frankenmuth, Michigan, we highly recommend it. That charming town you see in every Hallmark Christmas movie? That’s Frankenmuth. Unbeknownst to Madi, Tyler’s plan to propose had been in motion for months. While she was away on a bachelorette trip in October, Tyler secretly took both of their parents out to dinner. The ring had been purchased, her dad’s blessing had been given, and the planning for the perfect proposal was officially underway. The original plan was for everyone to take a horse-drawn carriage ride through town. However, Mother Nature had other ideas—nearly the entire state of Michigan was frozen when we arrived, and the horses weren’t allowed to work in the extreme cold. Instead, Tyler pivoted to a backup plan: a beautiful wooden bridge in Frankenmuth that’s decorated for the holidays and featured on countless postcards. To sell the moment, everyone insisted that dinner reservations were running behind and suggested we pass the time taking photos by the bridge. (In hindsight, it was a little suspicious—A. it was freezing, and B. no one else was lining up for pictures like usual.) Madi and Tyler were told to go first. While Madi was distracted, Tyler quietly knelt down behind her. For anyone who’s seen the video, you know Madi’s brain completely short-circuited when Tyler asked her to turn around. It took her a solid two minutes to fully realize what was happening. Through lots of tears and happy disbelief, Tyler asked her to marry him—and of course, she said yes.
