I first met Justin in June 2008 in the Mr. Joes parking lot in Southfield, MI. A longtime friend of ours introduced us. Coincidentally, we were both in transition periods. Justin had just graduated from the Detroit Police Academy and I was gearing up to move to Charlotte, NC. I have to admit… neither one of us were checking for the other. March 2014 — I noticed Justin liking a lot of my Instagram posts. So of course I looked at his profile and thought he’s cute, investigation time. I called up our mutual friend and told her, “If Justin liked one more of my pictures, we go together!” Believe it or not, I posted a picture and he liked it. Soon after I asked our friend to give Justin my number because as promised, we go together now. I can’t remember who called who first, but once we connected we talked every day all day; sometimes falling asleep, waking up the next morning still holding the phone. Lol. After a couple of weeks, I had a thought that he may be the one and soon began applying for jobs in Michigan. April 5th, 2014 I flew to Detroit for a job interview and to spend the weekend with Justin. For the first time in the history of me dating, I was able to exhale. In that moment, I knew I had found my forever love and protector. I think it’s safe to say it was love at second sight for us. Justin picked me up from the airport on April 20th, 2014 with an expectation I would live with my Mom until I found a place. God had different plans. Justin and I have been inseparable ever since.
October 2020, I told my Mother that I was planning on marrying the love of my life, Shelley Greear. Soon after, I shared with her Mother, Sheila, of my plans. I wanted to give Shelley an engagement ring unlike any other. Thanks to a friend, I found a jeweler that could do exactly that. After a few weeks, the ring was ready and the countdown to the proposal began! December 25, 2020 — The day has come! I always envisioned our proposal to be a big gathering, surrounded by family and close friends but COVID had other plans. I figured Christmas was the perfect cover up to have both our Mothers over and most importantly, Shelley not to be suspicious. To make sure the special moment was captured, I told her Richard, groomsmen, would stop by for a plate because he had to work. While Shelley was cooking Christmas dinner, I pretended as if something was wrong with the fireplace. I called her into the living room, asking her for help. Already on one knee, I asked her the ultimate question, “Will you marry me?” After turning around in circles several times, she said, “YES!”
