2022

March 10th 2022 - the day we said "I DO"

HOW WE MET!

FIRST COMES WORK, THEN COMES A LIFETIME OF LOVE

We met while working together on a loan approval (Gary was the Loan Officer and Shelley was the Underwriter). Our teams would go to happy hour and we became best friends. After many dinners, vacations, and exploring life we started to live together. Since then we have remodeled 2 homes, moved to Las Vegas, and built a new home in Arizona.

FIRST VACATION

Nov 2008

Shelley had a cruise scheduled and invited Gary to come along as a friend. We spent a few days in Orlando, a few days in Ft Lauderdale, and a few days on the cruise ship. We met new friends and enjoyed our time together. This started our love of traveling together!!!

FAMILY VACATION TO MAUI 2010

Jan 2010

Shelley was in Hawaii with her parents and called and asked Gary to fly over. We did not have our own room but slept on the couch in her parents’ room. This is when I knew we would be together forever. After this trip Gary slowly started moving into Shelley's house.

WHY 3-10-10

A few years back Shelley asked Gary if we had an anniversary date. He said March 10th, 2010. I said perfect. So, when we thought about getting married I said it must be on March 10th to keep that date. March is way too cold for Seattle so we are hosting the ceremony in our backyard in Goodyear, Arizona with Family only.

FIRST BIG JOINT PURCHASE

We went to the Puyallup Fair in Sept 2012 and got a new bed. It was an adjustable bed, which we still sleep on today. We also bought a hot tub for the backyard. It was delivered in the middle of the driveway on a huge pallet. We would laugh about who would get what items if we split up. He said the hot tub stays with the house which at the time was solely mine so he would take the bed!!!

3RD SATURDAY OF AUG

We found in Seattle the best weekend for an outside gathering is the 3rd Saturday of Aug. We would host a huge summer BBQ gathering. Pretty soon we would get texts from friends saying, "I have your BBQ on the calendar," so the tradition continued. This is the reason we scheduled the reception on the 3rd Saturday of Aug. This is by invite only as we need to keep the guest count low.

HOUSE REMODEL

2015

Shelley knew we were going to be together forever when we made it through remodeling the Renton house AKA "Shell's Garden and Retreat." We gutted the kitchen and hung new cabinets, new appliances, cut down the bar to match counter height, added new lights, and new paint, new vanities in both bathrooms, new sinks, and all new doors. Once again, we did ALOT on our own on nights and weekends which made the process much longer.

CABO

One of the many spots we enjoy visiting is Cabo, Mexico. We love the amazing Mexican food, sunshine, and over time we have made many friends. Shelley enjoys buying jewelry from Carlos on the beach. We soon got to know his wife, Carmen, and kids, Carlos, Maritza, and Tiffany. We see them each visit with a day at the pool or meal together. We also made friends with Jesse and Victoria and now we spend an afternoon each trip with them. We enjoy going to Cabo Wine and Jazz and enjoy Robert and Jojo's Italian food and wine. During Covid, Shelley was trying to help Carlos’ family with water as the government stopped delivering and became involved in the non-profit. "Fundacion Tres Deseos." We collected donations and found tucks to deliver water each week to the villages. Shelley still helps Christine (Agave), who runs the foundation, out as much as possible, including getting donations for the second-hand store and donations to help buy school uniforms and supplies.

NIZZIE AND BINX

Even though Shelley had cats prior to meeting Gary, we found a stray Tuxedo cat and fell in love with him. He was always there with us. He loved to eat rabbits and birds. Sometimes several in a single day. One morning we heard him cry many times. We took him to the vet where they stated he was full of stones and needed surgery. During surgery they nicked his bladder and we had to take him to the ER Vet where he later died. We felt like we had lost a child. Shelley went back to counseling and worked through it but it was tough. It was like our "family" was falling part. Not that long after we got a call from a friend that someone had posted they had a stray that had not been chipped and could not find the family. They were moving to Arizona and could not take the cat. We asked to meet and we fell in love with Binx. Binx has been attacked by a coyote maybe more than once and had a chunk of his tail bit and been to animal jail for wandering too far into the Henderson neighborhood.

ITALY

Wow... Our first trip to Italy was magical. We did lots of little tours and exploring on our own. We learned that the "Italian way" was amazing, food, walking everywhere, and strolls at night on the courtyards. The 2nd time we went was with an amazing tour group and cooking class in the heel of the boot. We fell in love with having water on both sides and are hoping to retire there in 2027!!!

HOME FLIP

2018

It was a hard time as we lost the best neighbor and amazing friend John Jenkins due to his death in October. We reached out to the owner who was also a friend Trevor. We bought the corner house and we just did it as we felt needed. It was lots of fun. We did most on our own after work and weekends. Our roommate James helped as well. He loved being a part of what we were in the middle of and asking questions. James died in November and never saw the end results. We tore up the carpet, went carpet shopping, we met with the hardwood floor company, we looked for paint, we re-did the counter tops and ripped out the island. We sold the house first of the year 2019. This is something we want to keep doing little by little and learn how to flip more.

MOVE TO HENDERSON NEVADA

March 2019 - June 2021

We packed up "Shell's Garden and Retreat", rented it out, and moved to Vegas in 2019. We rented a 3 bedroom home with a pool. Gary had been hired as a Loan Officer and Shelley found work as a Loan Officer Assistant / Processor. We thought we would enjoy many shows, music concerts, and great food but instead Covid-19 hit and the city shut down. We both started working from home full time. Binx got bit by a coyote and made it through with a small infection. Lil Girl loved the sunshine till her last day March 28 2021.

WELCOME TO GOODYEAR ARIZONA

June 2021

Halloween weekend 2020 we went to Arizona to visit Shelley's parents who were on vacation and to meet with a friend/realtor. We ended up putting a deposit down on the "parking lot". We closed on the house May 28th 2021. We have been enjoying the new neighborhood while building a pool and amazing backyard oasis. Shelley left her job in Aug to plan the wedding and help with home stuff. Gary got promoted to Manager and works from home full time.

Wedding Day

We are gathered together on this day to witness and celebrate the marriage of Gary & Shelley. We come together not to mark the start of a relationship, This moment has been more than a decade in the making, but to acknowledge and strengthen a bond that already exists. This moment is a public affirmation of that bond and as their dearest family and friends, it is our honor and privilege to stand witness to this event. This day is made possible not only because of your love for each other, but through the grace and support of your family and friends. I did not have to ask Shelley and Gary for any stories, she wrote their whole life story on their wedding website. Including why they chose today. You might have to ask Gary about that. But today has been their day for a long time. But you guys probably know even better than I do, the amount they love to travel. And today we are marking the next step, the next leg in the journey as they have decided to travel this crazy thing called life together. And while your lives have been so full, It is my hope that your fulfillment and joy in each other will only increase from this moment forward. Much of what I am going to say today is not earth shattering, or new, but that does not make it any less important. Marriage is a commitment in life, where two people can find and bring out the very best in each other. It offers opportunities for sharing and growth that no other human relationship can equal, a physical and emotional joining that has the promise of a lifetime. While the commitment begins with the two of you, its effect radiates outward. It touches your family and friends and ultimately all of society. When this commitment is seriously made and continuously fulfilled, it leads to the richest and most rewarding of human relationships. Your relationship will take more than love. It will take trust, to know in your hearts that you want only the best for each other. Dedication, to stay open to one another, to learn and grow, even when it is difficult to do so. And faith, Gary I know you aren’t very religious but there is a leap of faith that you are taking today, because to go forward together you have to be okay with each other and without knowing what the future holds for you both, just that from this moment you will have each to hold. While we were designed for love and relationship it is not as easy to come by, nor are the other qualities needed for success. Today is not the destination, but a stop on the journey. Those in this room and even you know that that in every marriage, there are good times and bad, times of joy and times of sorrow, but I say it again in hope that you will remember this and preserve through. Because marriage is a fantastic journey – a time of adventure and excitement enhanced by the love, trust, dedication, and faith you share in one another. Marriage is a give and take between two personalities, a mingling of two endowments which diminishes neither, but enhances both.

Wedding Day Part 2

May the promises you make to one another today, be lived out to the end of your lives. Tomorrow can bring you the greatest of joys, but today is the day it all begins. Gary and Shelley, do you, with your family and friends as your witnesses, present yourselves willingly and of your own accord to be joined in marriage? [We do] Will you promise to care for each other in the joys and sorrows of life, come what may, and to share the responsibility for growth and enrichment of your life together? [We will] To those of you seated here, do you promise to pray, support, and be here for this couple as they live out these promises made today. [We do] Gary and Shelley have chosen to exchange the traditional set of vows. So Gary, Look at Shelley and repeat after me. VOWS Groom, please repeat after me. I, Gary, take you Shelley, to be my wedded wife I give to you in the presence of these witnesses My promise to stay by your side, In sickness and in health, in joy and in sorrow, As well as through the good times and the bad. I promise to love you without reservation, Comfort you in times of distress Encourage you to achieve all of your goals, Laugh with you and cry with you, Grow with you in mind and spirit Always be open and honest with you, And cherish you for as long as we both shall live Bride, please repeat after me I, Shelley, take you Gary, to be my wedded husband I give to you in the presence of these witnesses My promise to stay by your side, In sickness and in health, in joy and in sorrow, As well as through the good times and the bad. I promise to love you without reservation, Comfort you in times of distress Encourage you to achieve all of your goals, Laugh with you and cry with you, Grow with you in mind and spirit Always be open and honest with you, And cherish you for as long as we both shall live. As a symbol of the promise that they are making the couple has chosen to mix some glass beads together. These will be in their fire pit for as long as they own this house. And I told them that anyone who tries to remove these stones should have their hands burned. I am just kidding. But let’s watch as they pour their lives together. The stones is not the only symbol that they have chosen to demonstrate their love. They also have rings for each other. Shelley has chosen a very special ring that belonged to her grandfather (Papa Jim) that she is now giving to Gary. He has chosen a band that goes with the diamond he convinced her to say yes with. From the earliest times, the circle has been a sign of completeness. The rings that you have chosen to wear have neither beginning nor end, much like your love for one another. They are a symbol of the words that you speak today. May these rings be from this day forward, your most treasured adornment, and may the love they symbolize, be your most precious possession. As you wear these rings, may they be constant reminders of these glad promises you are making today. Gary, take this ring, place it on Shelley’s finger and repeat after me. I give you this ring as a symbol of my love and faithfulness to you. Shelley, take this ring, place it on Gary’s finger and repeat after me. I give you this ring as a symbol of my love and faithfulness to you. Gary and Shelley from this moment forward you will never be alone. You will carry with you the love of another person, giving you a completeness and renewed lightness. May your life together be immersed in love and excitement. May you strive to enrich each other in every possible way. And may you work to bring the peace you find to this world. DECLARATION OF MARRIAGE Having pledged their fidelity to one another, to love, honor and cherish one another in the presence of this gathering and by the authority vested in me by the constitution and the laws of this state, it is my honor to now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride. Ladies and Gentlemen, it is my honor to be the first to introduce you to: Mr. and Mrs. Darden.
