FAQs

Some questions that I might ask if I were you. If there are questions you have that aren't answered here - please let us know! If you're asking them, that means someone else is wondering them. Give us a call or shoot us an email so we can update this page.
Question

Will I get seasick on the boat?

Answer

Luckily, The America is a big boat- the stability will reduce the feeling of swaying/rocking. According to the owners, it's exceedingly rare for a guest to get seasick- the boat hosts daily Whale Watching tours as well as special occasions. That said, it never hurts to take a non-drowsy Dramamine 30 or so minutes before boating. If you do find yourself feeling queasy, don't worry, Shelley gets queasy sailing and can empathize. We will have medication and ginger candy just in case.

Question

What should I wear for the ceremony and reception?

Answer

We recommend cocktail casual attire. We will be *on the deck of a boat* so we do not encourage stilettos/high heels. There will be stairs leading up into the boat as well as below deck for the state room. Your ankles are more important to us than the extra 3" that you gain from cute shoes. Since we'll be on the water, we recommend bringing a light jacket just in case of windy conditions- it can get chilly out on the water. There will be blankets on board.

Question

How long will the boat be out at sea?

Answer

We'll be taking the America out on a 4 hour cruise. We'll leave the dock at 5PM and return around 9PM. Please do not be late to the arrival, we wouldn't want to leave without you.

Question

Is the boat accessible for everyone?

Answer

Unfortunately, the boat has a few stairs getting onto the boat as well as getting below deck into the state room and the buffet area. Since we will be topside for the majority of our time, seating is fluid and we would recommend talking with us directly if you have any concerns with stairs or standing for longer periods of time. We'll do as much as we can to accommodate all guests!

Question

A wedding on a weekday! Why?

Answer

Since the majority (actually, all) of our family is located out of town, we wanted to allow for some additional days together. We hope this helps to make flight and hotel prices cheaper and we are so grateful for you taking some time away. We hope you'll treat this as a vacation with a few hours of Shelley + Cole time thrown in.

Question

I can't make it on the boat - can I participate in anything else?

Answer

Oh yeah! We'll have an after party once we dock and the more the merrier! If you'll be in San Diego that weekend, we'll have some brunches/dinners/beach time scheduled for everyone to spend some quality sun time together.

For all the days along the way
