Our First Date

Sunflower Cafe

Alyssa’s POV: Sheldon and I had very briefly met through mutual friends while out on The Strand in Galveston and later that week we had matched on Bumble. I decided to message him and had originally planned our first date for the Friday that he was coming back from work because that would be after all my finals . We talked for a whole month before this date came around, while he was offshore for work, and I couldn't wait any longer to meet him (again) so I asked him to brunch the Thursday before our Friday first date. The only problem was that Thursday afternoon I had my ATI exit exam to finish nursing school. I needed somewhere close to campus and a place that I knew the menu so I wasn't scrambling to choose my meal, and Sunflower Cafe was the obvious choice. Looking back, he must have REALLY wanted to go on this date too because he is NOT a morning person. We met there and had the best first date that we could've possibly had. I remember being nervous, I remember drinking probably a gallon of water, and I remember thinking "WOW, this is a really special guy." P.S. I ACED the exit exam later that day! Sheldon’s POV: Alyssa and I had met each out out on The Strand in Galveston. I had downloaded Bumble and wasn't really looking for anything, just browsing haha. I matched shortly after with Alyssa on Bumble and we had talked for a little while and decided we wanted to meet up for lunch. The date that we had set was a few weeks out because I as offshore. Little did I know she had other plans, and she asked to change the date to an earlier day. I said yes and we decided to meet at The Sunflower Cafe in Galveston. The date was early in the morning, and when I was off work I usually slept in until 11am on the daily. We met at Sunflower and I was so nervous, I didn't know what to talk about and what to do. So in lieu of talking I drank water..... lots and lots and lots of water. It was a good date and the whole time I was thinking how did I get so lucky.

The Proposal

The Sandcastles

Alyssa’s POV: First, we have to flashback to earlier in the year when my mom had mentioned several times about going to see these sandcastles during our annual South Padre trip. I was never given enough info to look it up, all I was told was no Crocs. We get there, couldn't find parking, and Uncle Johnny is late, per usual. As we gather waiting in parking lot, Tia Lisa goes over to the sandcastle tent, who then comes back yelling "We need to hurry up because they're closing soon since some guy is bringing his girlfriend here to propose!" This completely goes over my head and all I was thinking that if we can't see these sandcastles my mom will have a fit. We then all scurry into the tent, Sheldon takes my hand and we are RUNNING pass all of the sculptures. We round the final turn and the most beautiful sand sculpture with my name and the words "Will you marry me?" on it. He didn't waste any more time, he jumped into the most heartfelt speech, and dropped to one knee. With tears in both of our eyes, and surrounded by family, it was the easiest YES of my life. Sheldon’s POV: I had planned this out back in February and had told Alyssa's Parents, they were very happy to be included and know about it. Luckily they were able to keep it all a secret and go with the flow. I remember that day walking to the beach with her dad to set up in the morning. He asked if I was nervous and I said yes..... he replied back and said "me too". Was not expecting that. Later that day we all got ready to go to this sandcastle place and as I sat on the couch to "relax" I looked at my heart rate, and it was 102 bpm. We finally got in the car and got the cars parked, as we were waiting to go in her Aunt talks to the people running the place. She came back to the group saying they are temp closed due to an engagement about to happen. I knew my cover was blown, but it wasn't. We walked in and I rushed through to the sculpture (because I was nervous) and got down on my knee and proposed.
