We had gone to school together since middle school, but finally met during a spontaneous movie night at a mutual friend's. After ridiculing the film together, we ended up talking for ages in the driveway as neither of us wanted to leave.
After agreeing we loved the significance of mutual proposals, as we were making a mutual decision to marry each other, we each planned and received a proposal! As I struggled to decide which proposal plan I wanted to attempt, I finally realized why nothing seemed perfect- something elaborate didn't suit Skyler a bit. Attempting to be sentimental, I chose Cinco de Mayo to propose; our first date was a double with some fantastic street tacos, and we were supposed to close on our first house that day. We ended up with another taco-themed double date, and headed to TopGolf's grand opening, perfect because "our" house was nearby. I wanted to run by the house after and propose there, but a carpool meant it didn't work out that way. Instead, I proposed sitting in his car as we talked about how plans failing doesn't matter as long as we have each other to lean on. Skyler was, unexpectedly, much more creative! He planned an escape room visit, nothing suspicious or out of the ordinary. I didn't even think anything of it when the premise of our room was to find a lost engagement ring; as we got started and focused on the puzzles, I mostly forgot what the premise was anyway. When I opened the last clue and found our engagement photos, I finally realized what was going on. A cryptex was inside, and I shakily tried to open it with the code- "marry". Skyler had to help, as I was fumbling the letters, and he pulled a ring from inside. I probably said yes before he could officially ask!
