Our Story
We met during our freshman year at UNI in a gen-ed English class, which happened to be a hybrid format. One day, we got paired together in a breakout room and started talking. Turns out, we had a few mutual friends.
Shelby made the first move, and Sam will proudly tell you that, by asking our friend Cole (thanks, Cole) for Sam’s Snapchat. From there, we started chatting more and eventually went on our first date to Sidecar Coffee.
That first date wasn’t exactly magical. The coffee shop part felt a little awkward, and neither of us was totally sure how it went. But afterward, we grabbed lunch at the dining center to save a few bucks, and that’s what really saved the date.
A few weeks later, Sam asked Shelby to be his girlfriend, and we’ve been together ever since.
Fast forward four years, Sam proposed at Saylorville Lake, just how Shelby had hoped: outside, with no one else around. It was simple, sweet, and absolutely perfect.
