Shelby and Nas first met during Freshman Orientation in the summer of 2017. Both were nervous, so they didn’t talk much at first. Although they were in Carolina Band and ensembles together, they didn’t really become friends until they rushed Tau Beta Sigma, a music-service sorority, in the fall of 2018. After becoming mister sisters, they quickly grew into best friends. Over the years, they shared countless adventures, from band trips to sorority events. Shelby loved how easily Nas could make her laugh, and Nas loved that Shelby was always laughing right alongside him. When Shelby moved to Virginia Beach for a new job in the summer of 2021, they stayed close despite the distance. They spent hours on the phone talking about everything and nothing. In October 2023, Nas came to visit Shelby in Virginia Beach for a week that felt a lot like a series of great dates. After what Nas jokingly called “Rent a Husband,” they realized there was something more between them and started dating. Since then, they’ve been inseparable. Nas moved to Virginia Beach in November 2023, they bought a townhouse together in July 2025, and now they’re getting married on the same day as their dating anniversary. They’ve always believed in the saying, “Marry your best friend,” and that’s exactly what Shelby and Nas are doing.
