Shelby and Mike met in the seventh grade. Rocking shoulder length hair, Mike was a budding Rockstar, while Shelby was rocking two calculators (one in each hand), cruising her way onto the honor roll. Mike and Shelby were seated next to each other in Language Arts class. Shelby recalls lending out her pen to her skater dude neighbor and never seeing the pen again. Fast forward to High School when Shelby arrived to the woods behind Drexeline Shopping Center on a weekend night (you know, to just hang out with some friends) when Mike Madden approached her to reminisce about the seventh grade. Shelby took the opportunity to call him out about her “lost” pen after all these years. That next Monday in school, Mike found Shelby in the hallway to give her a green sparkly pen to repay her after all these pen-less years**. From that moment on, Mike and Shelby became best friends. For the next two and a half years Shelby and Mike endured classmates, teachers, and friends all saying, “when are you guys going to start dating?” and “you guys are definitely going to get married one day.” Mike and Shelby assured these people “we’re just bros – the best of friends” … until Mike and Shelby decided to be much much more than that after sharing a New Year’s Eve kiss. After that first kiss Shelby said to Mike, “well, now what?” to which Mike responded, “well, I guess we’re going to get married one day.” **It was later determined that Mike and Shelby’s other classmate in seventh grade was the person who borrowed Shelby’s pen and never returned it. He also gifted Shelby a new pen.
