How we met

It wasn't what we were expecting

Both of us hate to admit that we found each other through Tinder, but that's how it happened. There we said it. How did we end up there? We lovingly blame our friends. Our first date was spent at Shelby's favorite watering hole, Parkway Tavern, near her apartment in Summerlin. Being Type A personalities, we both showed up early and spent the rest of the night talking over drinks and games of Jenga. After realizing that we never actually ate dinner as we had originally planned the night before, we decided on a second date at Shelby's all-time favorite chain restaurant; Chili's. We spent that night and many days after talking about the little things and the big things in life. Our happiest moments, our saddest moments, and our most embarrassing ones. Since our first date, we've become inseparable.

The Proposal

December 18, 2019

Exactly one year to the day of our first date, Justin decided to propose. Justin asked Shelby throughout the year of exactly how she DID NOT want to be proposed to. Her worst fear was to be proposed to at the end of or during any type of hike, but she did say she would not mind an outdoor type proposal. Perfect. Justin, being an extreme introvert, knew that he wanted to have a small intimate proposal tucked away in the woods but made a silent promise to Shelby that he would not propose while on a hike. Justin felt that Red Rock Canyon in Las Vegas would be the best for both of their wishes as there are many small trails and wooded pull-offs that provide privacy and did not require any hiking. On the day of the proposal, Justin and Shelby went to Red Rock Canyon to end their one-year anniversary date. What Justin had not expected was the number of people that decided to show up as well. They drove the scenic loop with Justin looking for a place to park when he saw a road he had not seen before. Justin followed the road between two towering canyons that ended in a wooded area. Justin and Shelby parked and followed a path that led to a small sanded clearing. That's when Justin pulled out a small leather journal, read his proposal speech, got on one knee, and asked Shelby to marry him. She excitedly said "Yes!" and the rest is history.
