Lane and Shelby first met during the Spring of 8th grade when Shelby came to visit Elyria in 2016. Lane had been attending Elyria since Kindergarten and Shelby was attending McPherson Middle School at the time. Shortly after the visit, during the start of summer, Lane managed to acquire Shelby’s contact information and they began talking and getting to know each other. School started up again and they were both starting Freshman year of high school together at Elyria. They weren’t allowed to date at the time so they settled for good friends. Over time they grew apart but one evening, at the end of their senior year, Lane asked Shelby if she wanted to go for a drive. Shelby, wanting to do anything but stay in the house during Covid, said “Sure!”. This turned into a series of driving "dates" over the summer where they could just talk, catch up, and become friends again. Eventually, they discovered there was something deeper to their relationship than just a friendship. Lane started coming up to the door to pick up Shelby instead of Shelby going out to the car to meet Lane. There was a new sense of care and tenderness between them that helped them realize the love they have for each other. It was this love that's helped them through all the bumps in the road these last 4-5 years; making them stronger, closer, and firmer in their discernment that God brought them together for the then, now, and forevermore. "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." - 1 Corinthians 13:13
