Our story began on January 24, 2008 -- a random Thursday evening after work -- with friends meeting up in the parking lot of Regency Square Mall in Jacksonville, FL. He was a Marine stationed in Kings Bay, GA. She was a recent college grad working retail as she looked for a job. A group dinner at Hooters followed, then a group movie to see Cloverfield a few days later, followed by evening phone calls that lasted into the morning hours, and finally a date in Atlantic Beach, where he officially asked her to be his girlfriend. Our journey after involved drives back and forth between Kings Bay, GA and Jacksonville, FL; a cross-country move to Twentynine Palms, CA for the final two years with the Marine Corps; a six-month deployment to Southeast Asia; a move to the Washington, DC area for grad school; a career change from journalism to strategic communications; a Master's degree from Johns Hopkins University; a move to Bethesda, MD; a Bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland; multiple visits to Jacksonville and Houston for the holidays; and road trips to Disney World, Las Vegas, NYC, Toronto, Palm Springs, Hershey, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Annapolis, Harper's Ferry, Maggie Valley, San Antonio, Eastern Shore, Niagara Falls, Savannah, Key West, and many more! To celebrate our ten-year anniversary, we planned an amazing trip to Iceland, where we drove through the craziest snow storms and saw the most beautiful landscapes. On February 9, 2018, during a road trip from Reykjavík to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, in the picturesque town of Stykkishólmur, we found ourselves alone atop Súgandisey Island, overlooking Breiðafjörður Bay. There, by a little red lighthouse, he dropped on one knee and she said yes!
