Back in 2020 I discipled a girl named Gigi in Cru, the college Christian ministry I'm on staff with, and she would always update me about her older brother who had cancer. We would pray for him sometimes and our families were in touch some so I would pray for him occasionally with my parents too. Last I heard he was in remission so I thanked the Lord but I still never met him. Flash forward two years and I start working out a lot at the Briargate Y and getting really into fitness. I would go almost every day and there was this really cute guy at the gym that kept catching my eye and I would see him almost every time I went. Of course I didn't think anything of it and would never introduce myself because if I'm going to find a man who loves the Lord the gym is NOT the first place I'm gonna look. The only thing I knew about this guy is that we had a mutual friend named Mike because I would see them talk sometimes at the Y. One day I was in the cute guy's general vicinity (avoiding eye contact of course) and I heard someone say "Bye Justin". Okay. I finally had something to work with. Cute guy's name is Justin. The next logical step was to stalk Mike's instagram followers to see if I can find cute gym guy (who's name is apparently Justin) on instagram. I find Justin's profile and start scrolling through the photos and I see this one post about how the past two years have been the hardest years of his life because he was battling cancer. He went on to say how his faith and trust in the Lord is the only thing that got him through it and he is a better man now because of it. I was shocked. I suddenly put all the pieces together and realized that cute guy at the gym named Justin is in fact, Gigi's older brother who I had been praying for for two years!! Now I HAD to introduce myself. It took me 5 days to muster up the courage and find the right time to say hi. Finally the opportunity presented itself: "Random question... are you Gigi's older brother?" "Yes..." he replied, (I already knew he was of course from all my sleuthing) "I went to Estonia with her 2 summers ago! I also discipled her for a bit." and thus our friendship began. We found out we both loved skiing and had the same ski pass so we ended up going together quite a few times throughout winter break. At first I was just grateful for our friendship, but the more I got to know him, the more I realized he was a man of incredible character, he was gentle with me but challenged me, he loved the Lord and his life was proof of that. I started to really like this guy. I loved talking to him and spending time with him. Five months after meeting he told me he had feelings for me too and the rest is history. We both prayed about it a lot and we decided we wanted to get married! His one liner was "Yeah, I've decided you're the one so we've gotta get this ball rolling". We got engaged on December 17th and are so excited to meet all of you and celebrate!
