We first met when our friend, Hailee, invited Conor to drive out to Olympia and meet her friends. We were young, it was 2019, and we would spend all day walking around, and laughing with each other. It was not until 5 years later, right before Shayla's graduation, that we found each other once again. Conor was in a dark place, desperate to find meaning and purpose again. As it turns out, we both were looking for that. After some time, not knowing what to do, we both made the jump to move to Spokane, and start a new life together. We both loved exploration, wanted to have traditional values, and care for all creatures. All of these have brought us tightly together.
Shayla couldn't have waited a moment longer, and for me, I was absolutely terrified. I had wanted our engagement to be perfect, the sunset, a group of people, a beautiful view. We were both at The Gorge, seeing one of our favorite bands, but despite all the chances I had, I was too scared to ask someone to take a photo, too scared to get on one knee, and when the show was over, Shayla could tell I wasnt happy. She said at any moment, at any time, she would propose to me in a heartbeat, it didn't matter where or when. That gave me an idea, and I drove us down into the gorge, with a sky full of stars, and everyone fast asleep. We sat there together for a while, and in front of the sky, with the wind blowing wildly, I finally got on one knee and made my proposal. I have always been an introverted person, and in that moment, Shayla showed to me that she accepted me for who I was, fully and wholeheartedly.
