Our love story started in a rather unconventional way—on Tinder. Shaye was just 17 at the time and technically too young for the app, so she mentioned her age in her bio so people would know. Brandon, at 19, completely overlooked that detail. So, when we met for our first date at an Oil Kings hockey game, Brandon was in for a surprise when they went up to get some drinks and realized Shaye could not order her alcohol; it was definitely a mood-killer. To add to the awkwardness, it was a double date: Shaye brought a single friend, and Brandon brought a friend who was already in a relationship! Let’s just say the friends ended up sitting on the ends while we were stuck in the middle, feeling all sorts of awkwardness. Both of us would probably agree it was the worst first date ever. But clearly, something clicked, or we wouldn’t be here today, sharing the story of that awkward first date and how it turned into something so special. Since that first date, the past nearly eight years have been filled with incredible memories and milestones. Brandon cheered Shaye on through not one but two graduations while he completed his journeyman ticket. We bought our first home together and welcomed our golden retriever, Griffin, into our lives. Our adventures have included Brandon’s very first time on a plane when we went to BC, road trips around Alberta, and a few all-inclusive vacations in Mexico—Brandon’s first journey outside North America. From our early, slightly awkward days to the strong, loving partners we are today, we’ve been each other’s biggest supporters, turning challenges into cherished memories. We’ve built a strong foundation and a safe space where our love continues to flourish. Our love story has been filled with laughter, growth, and adventure, and we know this is just the beginning. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for us!
