A perfectly beautiful Day-After-Valentines-Day Proposal at a gorgeous French bistro overlooking a waterfall
We met toward the beginning of 2023 at Nashvilles Tavern in Rochester, NY, where we both went line dancing with friends. Trevor had been going to the weekly Thursday night dances, and Shaya started going regularly that year. We were introduced by Trevor's friend Amanda, who at the time was also becoming Shaya's friend. We remember meeting each other, knowing the other's name enough to say "hi" if we were both out dancing, and going on some dance-related group outings to the beach or a summer barn dance. At one such barn dance in 2024, Shaya helped Trevor get to the event, and we each noticed there was something a little more special about greeting each other and getting to dance a song together. We found that in addition to being good dance partners, we also seemed to be on similar wavelengths in conversation and humor. We didn't see each other much for a while, but then the following spring we started chatting more in person, over Messenger, and eventually by text after exchanging numbers. By April 2025, we were talking to each other every day, and by May decided it was time to figure out what to do with this increasingly special connection. Informally Trevor asked Shaya if he could bring her to Donuts Delite (a Rochester classic) to chat, and she asked, "Is this a date?" Neither of us were exactly sure what to call it, so Shaya opted to meet Trevor there, which to her felt a little more casual. However, as we split some delicious donuts, the conversation turned to the possibility of dating, and Shaya told Trevor that he should know that she's about to move to South Carolina, which might change his interest in her. He without hesitation said he'd be comfortable pursuing a long distance relationship with her, and that his dream job, BMW, has a major location in....*grabs a phone to look at maps*....Spartanburg, SC, which is 20 minutes from her soon-to-be home! A couple of days after the shock and "tidiness" (as Shaya would say) of that settled in, Trevor asked Shaya on a "real" date. We went to a community theater showing of "A Tale of Two Cities" and had dinner at The Old Pueblo Grill (yes, tacos!) And, as you know by now, our relationship has thrived since then, even over the great distance. We are thrilled to soon be able to be in the same place [finally!] and start our new life together.
