Our Story

9.15.19 Swiped Right / 10.9.2019 First Date

We met on Tinder. That's it... I'm kidding! But really, we matched on Tinder on September 19, 2019 and didn't have our first date until October 9, 2019. I can't really remember why it took forever to get to the first date but it doesn't matter because it happened. Our first date was at World of Beer in College Station, TX. My roommates can attest that I was pretty excited for this date. We had a routine when we would go on dates, trips, etc. to know who, when and where, and especially what does our date drive... Safety first! I honestly can't remember every detail but I do remember inhaling my bibimbap bowl and beer while Andrew talked. Overall, the date went well and we continued to talk. Fast forward to Halloween, Andrew invites me to the Sigma Chi Halloween party where we got lost in the neighborhood over from mine because the bus dropped us off in the wrong spot. One lost shoe later, we keep the dates coming. Fast forward to the weekend the world shut down, our plans to see Excision were cancelled but breweries were still open. In lieu of the concert, we decided to brewery hop. We ended up at Celestial Brewery (Our now favorite) where Andrew decided to make it official. So that's our story!

The Proposal

7.9.2023

Where? MAUI! Did I know it was happening? In short, no. BUT I had a feeling. We found ourselves in Maui to celebrate the beautiful wedding of the Dubiels. This marked our second adventure of the summer, with our next vacation being in Europe. When we got to Hawaii, I actually had messaged some friends that I thought Andrew, at least, bought the ring. The location of his proposal remained a mystery, whether it would be in Hawaii, Europe, or even Dallas. On the second to last day, our plans included dinner reservations at Mama's Fish House with both his family and the Slays. I had known for some time that we would be taking family photos at the restaurant, but it didn't raise any suspicions. However, as we departed from the resort for dinner, I couldn't resist sneaking a peek at Andrew's pockets, but there was no sign of a ring box. In that moment, I accepted that it could happen tomorrow or maybe in Europe. Fast forward to our arrival at the restaurant, and the customary family photo session began. When it was our turn, we went through the routine of adjusting our hair and finding the perfect pose. Several shots in, Margaret, Andrew's sister, kindly pointed out that my hair needed fixing. Martha, Andrew's mother, stepped in to assist with my hair, and then we resumed taking photos. Little did I know that this was all part of an elaborate plan. Resume photo taking. At this point Andrew is fidgeting and as I am about to ask what are you doing... SURPRISE. Andrew was down on one knee and asked me the question I had been waiting for! note: there's video if you want to see it!! See you in Dallas!
