How We Met

08.13.2016

We met in Charleston at a friend's wedding. I answered two important questions that evening for Shawn which I ended up answering correctly. We hit it off pretty well and talked about a variety of topics that evening. It felt as though I had been catching up with an old friend. We exchanged numbers and he took me out on our very first date one week later. We have basically been doing long distance ever since we met. We're happy to finally put an end to it!

The Proposal

07.12.2020

Shawn and I love visiting new cities together (prior to COVID). We both realized that we hadn't been back to Charleston - which is the city we met at. Let's rewind to the week prior - July 4th weekend. I had it in my mind that Shawn was going to propose that weekend but sadly he didn't. I won't lie and say I was cool with it because deep down I was bummed out and he knew it. Fast forward to a week later, he planned a special weekend in Charleston. I went into that week with low expectations. We had a nice little lunch at Poe's Tavern on Sullivan's Island and we went to IOP to spend the rest of the afternoon at the beach. We went to dinner at Tavern & Table along Shem Creek. The food was delicious and the view was so pretty. We visited the spot we met at and it brought back so many memories. It was such a wonderful and perfect evening. No proposal. So I drifted away to sleep that night and woke up the next morning ready to explore some more. Shawn had made reservations at Page's Okra Grill but received a phone call that morning saying that our reservations were cancelled because they were short-staffed that day. So off to Plan B - which was to look for a new restaurant. I will admit that Shawn is very good at finding restaurants. We ended up going to Butcher & Bee - another fabulous restaurant. I was oblivious to the fact that Shawn had the ring in his pocket the entire time. Afterwards, we drove around downtown Charleston to kill some time and then made moves to The Angel Oak Tree on John's Island. It was fascinating seeing the tree together and all its grandeur. It has withstood a lot of natural disasters, wars, etc. and there it stands at 400 years old. Shawn found a park bench off to the side and we sat and talked. The next thing I know he's on one knee and I'm crying. We sealed the deal by putting another love lock on the bridge next to the original one we put before he moved away in 2017. It was definitely a weekend to remember!

For all the days along the way
