I wish I could say that Shawn and I meeting was fate or our eyes met from across the room, but honestly, we would never have met (maybe) if it wasn't for Facebook. One day, at the end of my Senior year in High School, I saw Shawn's face appear in the "People You May Know" section of Facebook and instantly I was intrigued. After a few days of contemplating (aka, daring my self to reach out) and a light amount of Facebook stalking, I finally "slid into his DMs" with a simple "Hey :)" and the rest as they say, is history! Poor guy had no idea what he got himself into.
Oh, this is a good story. The first proposal attempt happened late September of 2020. Shawn and I decided to go have a lovely happy hour at our favorite restaurant (Daniel's Broiler), little did I know that Shawn had decided to propose that evening. But what he did not expect out of the evening was my stomach interrupting his plans by acting up and causing me discomfort. So, needless to say I barely ate at dinner and was not a happy camper. Afterwards we decided to "go for a walk" around Gasworks Park (where we took our first Anniversary photos) to see if that would help my discomfort. All the while, Shawn was still contemplating whether or not to propose at the top of the main hill. After seeing the crowds at the top (hi, COVID) and my persistent discomfort he decided that night was not up to the standard he was looking for with his proposal. Flash forward to October 1st of 2020. Due to the raging pandemic, Shawn and I rented a house in Lake Chelan with our dear friends Scot and Crystal instead of traveling to Hawaii for a little get away. The night of the 1st, we had just come back from an amazing dinner and decided to end the evening by relaxing in the pool. After a while it was just Shawn and I and he decided to tell me that he had to go to the restroom. He left me outside in the pool, where the pool lights were set to Seahawk colors and the moon was in full view. When Shawn came back, he got in like nothing else had changed (except he had smuggled the ring out of the house and placed it under my towel by the pool). After a few minutes, Shawn turns to me and declares his eternal love (along with a few other marvelous statements) while grabbing the ring box from behind my head (beneath the towel). At the precise moment he finished his speech, Shawn presented the box, asking me to marry him and of course I said, "Yes".
