There is a lot to see at Nelson Ghost Town and some fun things to take pictures of. After the ceremony we will take pictures with our photographer and everyone is welcome to walk around and look at everything while we do that. Respect all the signs that say “Stay Out” or “Don’t Go Beyond This Point”. Don’t climb all over the old equipment. Beware the Cholla Cacti AKA Jumping Chollas - In reality, jumping cholla do not jump. The common names comes from the fact that the individual stem segments of the plant are only weakly attached. The slightest touch will detach them. This gives unfortunate hikers the idea that the plant has physically jumped out and attacked. Needless to say, cholla are a spiny lot and each spine is covered in backward pointing barbs, which make removing them a painful experience. As a result, they not only fall off the plant readily, they grab on for a ride. https://www.flyingdawnmarie.com/new-blog/nelson-ghost-town
Dress code is semi-formal. Keep in mind that we will be outside and it will be hot. The temperature at the ghost town is usually a few degrees cooler than Las Vegas but still hot.
Nelson’s Ghost Town is 45+ minutes away from Las Vegas. Their address is: Nelson Cutoff Rd, Searchlight, NV 89046 Or 16880 State Highway 165, Searchlight, NV Parking: As soon as you pull up, you’ll see a bunch of buildings on the left and right of you. Park on the right side. You will have service up until the last few miles, but if you start your GPS in town, you should have no trouble getting there. When you leave, just back track until you have service again. You can reach Nelson by traveling south on state Highway 95 out of Boulder City. Take the exit for Road 165; you will be heading southeast towards the Arizona border. Signs pointing out the public land portion of the El Dorado Canyon will be visible. Take your time on the downward grade that slopes as you continue south. Before long, you will arrive in Nelson.
We will head to Battista’s Hole in the wall for dinner at 8:30.
