Question

Where is the wedding?

Answer

Coordinates: 36.014310, -109.872237 The wedding and reception will take place at the bride's family residence in Tsélani Springs, Arizona, located approximately 23 miles west of Chinle, Arizona. The image above shows the turnoff onto the dirt road leading to the Begay Residence. On the day of the wedding, there will be directional signage. For precise directions, kindly refer to the provided coordinates.

Question

Will the ceremony be a Navajo traditional wedding?

Answer

Yes, our ceremony will be a combination of the Navajo traditional wedding and modern wedding concepts. Rather than hold the ceremony in a hogan, the ceremony will be held in a chaha’oh (shaded structure using tree trunks and leafy branches) where all guests can observe the ceremony. As part of the reception, guests are invited to join in a special moment honoring the Diné tradition of intergenerational wisdom. During dinner, a marriage counseling segment will take place, where family, elders, and loved ones share blessings, guidance, and heartfelt advice for the newlyweds’ life together. All guests are encouraged to offer personal toasts or words of marriage advice. While not everyone may have time to speak, we encourage those who wish to speak to come prepared and keep it brief so we can include as many voices as possible.

Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

The dress code is dressy casual. Examples include Navajo/traditional, country western, and smart casual attire. Please note that the ceremony and reception will be on natural dirt floor, so we recommend wearing comfortable, closed-toe shoes.

Question

Are kids allowed?

Answer

Yes and no. The ceremony is for ages 10+ only. The reception will be open to all children.

Question

Can I bring a plus-one?

Answer

Yes, you are welcome to bring guests. Please make sure to include them in your RSVP so we can plan for seating and food.

Question

What time should I arrive at the ceremony?

Answer

The ceremony begins at 3:00. Please arrive 15-30 minutes early to get settled.

Question

What's the weather like this time of year?

Answer

Expect temperatures between 43 - 72º F. The weather can be a bit unpredictable during this season. It might swing between sunny and warm during the day and cooler at night. We recommend checking the forecast closer to the date and dressing in layers to stay comfortable.
