Our Love Story Joni and Shawn’s journey began in the most serendipitous way—as teachers in the same school. Shawn taught just down the hallway from Joni, and their paths crossed daily in the rhythm of school life. Two co - workers saw the potential that the two of them had and sneakily played matchmaker behind the scenes to put this story into motion. One September afternoon, Shawn nervously lingered in the doorway of Joni’s classroom after school, gathering the courage to ask her a simple question: “Would you like to grab coffee? I know a place...” That question turned into their first date at Shawn’s favorite Lakewood coffee spot, The Root Cafe. Over coffee, the two discovered how easy it was to talk, to laugh, and to connect. Their conversation flowed effortlessly, so much so that they decided to extend their date to Lakewood Park. Sitting by the water, they lost track of time in conversation. Shawn was nearly late for work that evening, a small sacrifice for a day that would change both of their lives forever. From that first date, it was clear to both Joni and Shawn that they had found something special. They spent every moment they could together, creating a collection of cherished memories. Whether it was exploring Cleveland’s vibrant coffee scene, cheering on the Cavaliers at Cavs games, or traveling to new favorite destinations, their love grew deeper with each shared experience. On June 1st, 2024, during a trip to New York City, Shawn planned a moment that would become one of the most magical in their story. As they strolled through the iconic Central Park, he got down on one knee and asked Joni to marry him. He was so nervous that the ring was left in the box! With the backdrop of the city’s skyline and the timeless beauty of the park, Joni said yes to forever with Shawn. To the two of them, it was the easiest decision of their lives. Now, Joni and Shawn are excited to continue writing their love story as they prepare to say “I do” surrounded by their family and friends.
