“The Charles St. Link Up”

05/04/2018

After wrapping up a hectic Friday at work, Shawda was ready to relax. Still, with her big heart, she agreed to help her cousin with a quick favor—fitting it in between errands before calling it a night. Meanwhile, Amisha had just landed from a flight. All she wanted was a good workout and some solo chill time. But when a few friends hit her up to hang out near her downtown Baltimore spot—right as a block party was kicking off—plans shifted. Later that evening, Amisha and two friends strolled down Charles Street, soaking in the music, laughter, and energy. They stumbled upon an art gallery called Pipe Dreamz, which was hosting a showcase of new works by talented Black artists from D.C. Naturally, they stepped inside. While admiring the art, Amisha spotted someone walk in—tall high-top, gold glasses, major presence. Her first thought? “She thinks she cute.” But in truth, Amisha was the one intrigued. That “cute girl” was Shawda, who happened to be thinking the exact same thing about Amisha—the one with the pretty smile and Afro puff. Funny enough, neither of them were there to hang out long. Shawda had only stopped in to pick something up for her cousin from the gallery owner, Allen. But when she arrived, Allen was mid-conversation—with Amisha and her crew. He introduced them, then stepped away to grab what Shawda came for. In that brief window, something sparked. Amisha’s friends caught on and gave them space. Shawda, nervously cracking jokes, assumed Amisha was just visiting (thanks to Allen introducing them all as flight attendants). But Amisha corrected her—she actually lived just a block away. When it was time to leave, Shawda joked she’d invite Amisha to “The Cookout,” assuming they’d never cross paths again. But Amisha surprised her: “How am I supposed to come to The Cookout if I don’t have your number?” That’s when Shawda realized—this might be something special. They ended with vague plans to “link up” and a hug that left a lingering scent on Shawdá’s shirt hours later from Amisha’s sweet fragrance. But later that night, Amisha texted her—direct and to the point: “If you’re coming, you need to get here soon. I have to be at work early.” Without hesitation, Shawda headed over. She even shared her location with a friend, she wasn’t stupid. She was at Amisha’s door 22minutes later. They spent hours talking—music, laughter, life. Shawda wasn’t a fan of the wine Amisha poured, but she drank it anyway to keep the good vibes flowing. By 2:30 a.m., Amisha had to pack for her early morning shift, and Shawda jumped in to help—neither of them ready for the night to end. Since that night—May 4, 2018—they’ve been inseparable. Together, they’ve weathered the highs, the lows, the beautiful and the messy. They’ve grown emotionally, professionally, and romantically. Through it all, their love has only deepened. On Sweetest Day, October 21, 2023, Shawda pulled off the ultimate surprise: a proposal, planned perfectly with help from their inner circle. Amisha didn’t see it coming. After that, it felt like they just fell in love all over again. Now, as they prepare for their wedding in February 2027, they’re ready to celebrate not just a ceremony—but a love story that’s been genuine from the very start. This isn’t just a wedding. This is much more than anyone can see. It’s the celebration of something meant to be.
