We met in ward council, which Jon hates to say, because then he has to admit that something good came out of Ward council. Ashley was competent, Jonathon was sarcastic and knowledgeable, so it was a perfect match. Jon actually wanted to ask Ashley out first by stealing temple family cards to give back to her, but when he tried to call her, Ashley didn't answer because she didn't answer out of state numbers, and then Jonathon was too nervous because Ashley was just so good-looking when she answered the door and Jon just gave her the temple cards and left. Ashley was really disappointed because she wanted him to ask her out, and had gotten dolled up in preparation for him coming over after much discussion with her roommates over the merits of after church outfits. Cut to a luncheon after church in which Jon is debating about ice, and somehow gets to the point "Everyone should read the first four chapters of Handbook Two." Ashley stays up all night reading the first four chapters, so she can text Jon and ask him a "question" about it, and Jon immediately asks Ashley out, then answers the "question". One lovely date and debate later, and here we are!
For our first date, Jonathon didn't specify that he would pick up Ashley. To Jon, that meant he would pick up Ashley. To Ashley, that meant that they would meet at the place they said the date would take place (BYU Library movie). So, while Ashley is driving to the movie to get there early and then wander around as if she was the most interesting person in the world and wasn't anxiously looking for her date, she gets a phone call from Jonathon saying that he just got off work, and would it be alright if picked her up in about 5-10 minutes? Ashley, who is now driving on bulldog boulevard, which as many of you might know, has very few places to do a U-turn, is considering her options but ultimately decides that she wants to set the precedent that she wants to be picked up for dates, because that is the gentlemanly thing to do, and she hasn't had that very often. So, she said, "umm, yeah! That will work" figuring that she can make it back to her apartment by then. Ashley then makes a very "legal" U-Turn, runs up to her third story apartment building and has just enough time to catch her breath, fill in her roommate as to why she's back from her date so soon, when she hears what will soon become her favorite knock in the whole world. And yes, he opened the door for Her too. Still does. Every time. :)
