Level 1: Meet & Greet It all started with a $4.99 subscription deal on the Match app. Our Profiles matched, and we decided to chat. We were both excited to move things off the app, but Shautera took a while to give her number; she had to let Jamarcus sweat. We decided to continue conversing, which then led to our first official date, at Highland Park. The date went great, and soon there were zoo dates, movie dates, and more. A true friendship was formed after bonding through many phone calls, texts, drives from BR to NO, and FaceTime calls. We decided to make it official as a couple. Level 2: Conquering Life’s Curveballs Throughout our journey, we were thrown some curveballs and had setbacks, but in true gamer fashion, we didn’t quit, just leveled up. There was a sad day when Shautera moved to California, and an exciting day when she moved back home. Like a rainbow after the storm, we shared many cherishable moments, including getting our fur baby, embarking on home renovations, taking trips, having our first flights, and sharing many new experiences. No matter the obstacle, adventure, or change, we conquered them together. Level 3: The Proposal, aka Where it all Went Down! Flash forward three loving years later. Let’s set the scene, it’s Christmas Eve 24’, mind you, for the past three months, Jamarcus had been acting very strange to say the least, but this day he was being so “weird”, clue finder Shautera was just about to snuff him out, “I’m thinking he brought us a new game or console”. Shautera’s sisters were heading down to visit, so when Jamarcus asked me not to come upstairs, “I took it he was cleaning upstairs.” He called me upstairs to the “beloved Game Room,” and with my eyes closed, I heard Kenny Latimore's “For You” softly playing. I opened my eyes to rose petals and candles, Jamarcus on one knee, with the words in the petals asking “Will You Marry Me?” He gave a heartfelt speech and popped the question, as my heart skipped a beat, and numerous amounts of “aww, baby”, I said YES! Then right on cue and unbeknownst to them, my sisters arrived, I told them the news, and we all screamed and jumped at the door. We were both so overjoyed, which brings us to level 4. Level 4: The Beginning of Forever They say in the context of sports, particularly tennis, “Game Set, Match” signifies the progression from winning a single game to winning a set, and ultimately, to winning the overall match. We can genuinely say that we won the ultimate “MATCH”. As we set off to continue at the most fantastic game of Life, there is no better person to ride with.
