Question

What are the tents and cabins like?

Answer

OFRC offers cozy, rustic platform tents and cabins that can accomodate up to 5 people. On Friday, August 12, you can select accommodations with or without electricity, make a request for a specific tent or cabin, and make a request to be near other parties. Visit www.featherrivercamp.org to see pictures of the accomodations. Please note - bedding is NOT provided. Guests are expected to bring sleeping bags, pillows, towels etc... There are options to rent or borrow these if you are not able to bring your own. Please reach out to Clare and Shaun to coordinate.

Question

Are kids welcome?

Answer

YES! Oakland Feather River Camp is a family friendly venue. We encourage you to bring your kiddos to any and all events/activities over the weekend.

Question

Can I bring my dog(s)?

Answer

We love all fury friends but need to limit the number of dogs at the camp. Our dogs (Mongo and Rainier) will be there, but unfortinately no other dogs will be allowed.

Question

Are you registered? Where?

Answer

We are registered here: www.zola.com/wedding/shaunandclare/registry

Question

Aren't you two already married?!

Answer

Yes. Due to Covid-19 and California wildfires, we decided to postpone our wedding celebration with friends and family. Instead, we got married on August 17, 2021 with our rad officiant Josh Morris and our dog Mongo. We had a short ceremony on a black sand beach on the Lost Coast Trail during a week-long backpacking trip. While we won't technically be getting married at OFRC, this is our chance to celebrate with YOU - our amazing friends and family

Question

Is there wifi at the camp?

Answer

Due to being tucked away in a valley a bit away from the mountain town of Quincy, wifi is NOT available for campers. If you need internet access, you can drive or bike to Quincy, which is about 5 miles away. There, you can find several cafes and coffee shops, a library and a laundromat – in addition to a dedicated, shared workplace for those who need to connect (see The Quincy Collective). Enjoy being disconnected from work, the news and the outside world and truly slow down, relax, and enjoy camp life!

Question

Is there cell service?

Answer

Because of our location at the bottom of a small valley, most cell service carriers do not work on most of the property. When you arrive, we are happy to show you where in camp people usually get the best signal. And with a short walk or drive out our entrance road, you’ll get full bars.

Question

Are you crazy?! Love in the time of Covid?! And wildfires?!

Answer

We totally understand!! It has been a challenging couple of years and there is still so much uncertainty. We've invited you all to our wedding celebration because we'd love to share the special weekend with family and friends. But still, we understand if there is not high attendendance. Please, please, please do not feel pressured to attend. And, you probably don't live anywhere near Quincy so we also understand how much of a trek it is for most of you. We look forward to celebrating with you another time in another way!

Question

No really....we are not going to make it. Sorry, not sorry.

Answer

We understand! Truly. It's a challenging time to plan for anything, let alone flying across the country (or ocean) for a wedding.

Question

What if there are wildfires or smoke?

Answer

Covid, wildfires, bears....oh my! The joys of planning anything in 2022... We realize wildfires are a risk, as it is for any outdoor wedding in California. The fire and smoke risk in Plumas National Forest is lower than previous years since it was greatly affected by previous wildfires (read: there's not much left to burn in the surrounding area, unfortunately). We are cautiously optimistic based on the rainfall and snowpack so far. All this to say, we acknowledge the risk of needing to reschedule due to wildfires. The bottom line is: we will NOT be bringing all of our closest friends and family into a burning forest. Please join us in prayer to the rain and weather gods that we'll enjoy beautiful, clear, refreshing mountain air.

Question

What is the bathroom situation at the camp?

Answer

There are several bathrooms at OFRC, most of which are newly renovated, and have a several shower stalls, sinks, toilets, and long vanity. There is ample hot water, and staff have been renovating the bathrooms during the off-season with brand new paint, equipment, and dividers between sinks as an additional Covid health and safety measure. The bathrooms by the dining hall, Chow Palace, are the largest and closest to the action, while the bathrooms in the upper and lower camps are smaller and more private.

Question

How can I make or receive emergency calls?

Answer

There is a telephone at camp with an answering machine that is checked frequently by camp staff. The number can be provided in advance if needed-- espeically if you think someone might need to reach you during your time at camp.

Question

What not to wear?

Answer

Considering the average August temperature in Quincy, we expect it to be very warm during the day (80s) and cool down considerably at night (~55-60 degrees) though it could be hotter/colder of course, so we recommend layers since we'll be outdoors the whole time. For non-ceremony days, wear whatever you'd like to keep cool, and some more light coverage for evenings where the bugs like to come out and feast on humans. For the wedding evening, wear something that makes you feel awesome. Be sure to bring your favorite bathing suit(s) for the river and nearby swimming holes, as well as water shoes and a towel to fully enjoy some amphibious days. We recommend bringing some athletic attire/shoes to enjoy a hike or other activities. We will send you a full packing list as we get closer. But probably no stilettoes --the terrain isn't well suited for pointy heels. Sensible/comfy footwear encouraged. :)
