The Grand Proposal Video. Can you guess what I said?!
Every great love story starts in the ER… obviously. We both worked in the ER. Me - a Comm Tech, taking incoming calls from EMS units. Him - a PA who worked in the ER Observation Unit. He would come upstairs to intake patients, and I took notice of the kindness. I noticed he always wore prayer beads. I noticed how he would treat his patients with the utmost respect. I didn't speak a word to him for months, though. Mostly because I was terrified. I didn’t even know his name yet, so I lovingly referred to him as “the Namaste Man" to my friend Chelsea and told her how I needed to know him. After enough encouragement from Chelsea (who confirmed he was, in fact, the nicest human in the hospital), I finally made my move after about two weeks of contemplation: I complimented his shoes. At the time, I was convinced this incredibly kind PA would never be interested in me — I was “just” a Comm Tech, surviving long ER shifts while buried in paramedic school and studying pharmacology. But plot twist: one day he walked up to me, asked what I was studying, and when I said pharmacology, he gave me his number and told me to call if I had any questions. This is where I panicked. I immediately dragged Chelsea into the supply room to ask what I should do. Her advice? “Pick a medication. Ask a question.” Simple. Logical. Did I do it? Absolutely not. After two weeks of zero phone calls from me, he understandably figured I wasn’t interested and began casually asking if I had any cute, single friends. After about the third time he asked, I finally gathered all my courage and said, “I could be your cute, single friend.” Luckily, he agreed. What started with shoes, scrubs, and a missed pharmacology question phone call turned into the best decision we ever made. And now, here we are — still laughing, still learning, and ready to take on life together (no supply room panic required).
