It all started in 2012. It was Alexa’s junior year, and Tyler’s senior year of high school. They shared a class together, having not known one another before, and instantly became friends. Their friendship was special, and as the school year progressed, so did their feelings for each other. Graduation for Tyler came in May, and they thought their friendship would die out. However, their feelings for each other prevailed as they kept in contact over the summer, and finally began dating on October 29, 2013. January 2014 came quick for the new couple as Tyler left for Professional Umpire School, and Alexa was in the middle of her senior year. After Alexa’s graduation in May, the beginning of their “long distance” relationship would soon be tested. Between six months of baseball season away from home for Tyler, and Alexa juggling work and starting college, their lives together started way different than ever expected. With Tyler being away from home for over six months a year, they soon began to enjoy traveling the country together during his time home. Their first trip together was to New York City and instantly fell in love with it, and continue to go back yearly. Separate from the numerous states Alexa travels to visit Tyler during baseball season, they have enjoyed vacationing all around the country, including Los Angeles, Las Vegas, many trips to Disney World, and also yearly trips to Mardi Gras in New Orleans. After four and a half years later, over 500 days apart, thousands of miles traveled visiting during baseball season, Tyler proposed to Alexa on January 14, 2018 in beautiful Central Park in New York City, their first and favorite vacation destination.
Tyler knew Alexa was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. He and Alexa's best friend Katrina planned a surprise trip to New York City for Alexa's birthday, and he thought it would be a great time to propose to her. As they wandered the Big Apple together, Tyler tried over and over to find the perfect proposal spot. Walking through Central Park, they stumbled across Bow Bridge. As Alexa took a picture, Tyler dropped down to a knee, muttered a few sentences that neither remember, and said “I know this is corny, but will you marry me?” (The same phrase he asked Alexa when they began dating) Holding back the tears, Alexa obviously said yes, making this vacation to NYC the best one yet!
