Stan was introduced to Sharon by a mutual friend. Actually, it all started with a dog named Jake long before that but you've heard that story enough already! It was indeed a Divine Intervention. Flash forward 16 years. An empty nest, a move to downsize the homestead and dreams of their retirement years were on the horizon now. Where did the time go? With the encouragement of the "kids" (and a few sister-in-laws), Stan plotted and planned the proposal details with them. After all, it was time to focus on the two of them for a change and there was no time like the present..
As the evening was coming to an end, Sharon was convinced by the family to engage in a Christmas Eve stroll to look at the holiday lights. She didn't have on her "walking" shoes or the appropriate attire for a cold evening walk but she agreed since it was a tradition with them. Stan, Sharon and the "kids" travelled to an area where she and Stan frequently enjoyed their date nights. As the group strolls together, laughing and enjoying the magic of Christmas Eve, Stan stops for a moment to reflect and express his appreciation that everyone could be together for the evening. That's when he turns to face Sharon and explains that there is still something "missing" on this amazing evening. He delivers a sincere quote: "Even though I wasn't your first kiss, your first date or your first love, I want to be the last". "Will you marry me"? Sharon proclaimed that it was so sudden and unexpected, that she'd have to "think about it" (ha ha). Of course she quickly came to her senses and said yes!
