We highly recommend exploring Rocky Mountain National Park while you’re in Estes Park. It’s absolutely stunning and just minutes from town. During peak season, the park uses a timed entry reservation system, so be sure to secure your entry pass in advance. There is also a park entrance fee unless you have an America the Beautiful National Parks Pass. About one quarter of timed entry reservations are released for next-day visits at 5 p.m. the evening before, and they sell out quickly, so you’ll need to be online right at 5 p.m. to grab one. No reservation? You still have options. Early risers can enter the Bear Lake Corridor before 5 a.m., or access other areas of the park before 9 a.m. If mornings aren’t your thing, you can enter after 3 p.m., or after 6 p.m. for the Bear Lake Corridor, with plenty of daylight left to enjoy the mountains. If you are not up for a hike, you can drive through the park too-- we did this in February and it was gorgeous!
